Waterfall

I think that this book would be appropriate for ages 12+.

This book is about two sisters named Gabi and Lia. Gabi and Lia are searching in an ancient tomb for their mom who is a archaeologist. As the girls are searching through the dark tomb, they realize that the room is spinning. Once the room stops spinning Gabi gets up and realizes that Lia is not there with her. Gabi walks out of the tomb and right into the middle of a battlefield. Gabi has fallen into the 14th century. One of the men in the battle see her, and take her back to his castle. Gabi tries to escape Many times in order to find her sister, but she is caught each time. Finally she convinces the three leaders (Marcelo, Luca, and Fortino) to help her find her sister. Then Gabi finds out her sister has been taken by one of the worst kingdoms in the area. Now she is not so sure she can get her sister back.

I don't think that I have ever read a time travel book, but I'm glad that this was my first. Once again I came into this book with low expectations, but I'm not sure why. Yet again I was blown away by how this book was. Lisa Bregren really made it her goal to show how much times have changed. This book was world driven for sure, which I usually do not like, but in this case it worked very well. Since this book was about time travel it was very important to show the difference between this time periods, and she did that very well. I really loved this book and hope to continue on with the trilogy.

My favorite character was Luca, because he was funny and sarcastic.

This book had no cursing. It had moderate violence (since this was set in the 1400's there was a lot of fighting with different weapons.) this book had pretty minor romance. There was definitely some, but it was not over the top.

The Girl of Fire and Thorns

I think that this book would totally fine for anyone twelve years old and up.

This story follows a girl named Elisa. Elisa is married off to a prince in another realm, in trade for peace between the two realms. Elisa begins to learn how to be princess, and how to deal with things in the castle. Then Elisa is kidnapped and the people need her in order to stop a war. At first Elisa is wanting to get away, until she realizes that she likes these people and want to help them with the war. Elisa meets a boy named Humberto, and realizes that she likes him. The problem is, she is already married. Now Elisa has to figure out how to stop a war, and how to get out of her marriage without starting another war.

This book was absolutely incredible. Since it is a high fantasy book, it did take me a while to get into it. After being slightly confused for the first twenty pages or so, it really took off. After it started to get going, it never stopped. There was constant action and it never got dull or boring, I highly recommend this book especially if you are in a reading slump.

                                                               READQUEEN

My favorite character is Humberto, because he is funny and light hearted.

This book has no bad language, minor romance, and medium violence.

Life as we Knew it

I think that this book would be fine for ages twelve plus.

This book is about a sixteen year old girl named Miranda.  Miranda lives at home with her mom and her fourteen year old brother Jon.  While they are at home they hear on the news that a meteor has hit the moon, and has moved it closer to orbit.  Miranda calls her nineteen year old brother Matt, and asks him to come home with them in case anything happened.  They have begun rationing food, saving water, and getting whatever supplies they may need.  Then the tidal waves begin.  All over the world tidal waves are killing people.  They believe that they are safe because there are no large bodies of water around them, until the electricity goes out, and the earthquakes and volcanic eruptions begin.  Now people are starving to death, and they are running out of food.  They find away to gather food and they think that they may be safe, until the plagues begin.  Miranda's mom gets the plague and passes it on to Jon, then to Matt.  How are they supposed to survive this?

I thought that this book was good, but very forgettable. It was fun to read it, but I would not recommend it. This was the first apocalyptic book that I have read, so that may have had something to do with it. All in all I found it very generic and didn't see anything very unique or special in it.

                                                                  READQUEEN

My favorite character is Matt, because he tries his best to keep there family together.

This book has very minor bad language, and romance.  The violence is not bad at all, (A mention of a woman committing suicide after her daughter died.) (Also Miranda's family is divorced, and there is some discussion about religion because Miranda's best friend is a Christian.)

The Chaos of Stars

I would recommend this book for ages 12 plus.

This book is about a girl named Isadora, who is the daughter of two egyptian gods.  When Isadora finds out that her mom is pregnant, she gets mad and decides to  go live with her brother and his girlfriend.  When she gets there she finds out that her brother has gotten married, and that his wife is also pregnant. Isadora is sick and tired of babies, and tries to stay as for away as possible from them.  She gets a job as a tour guide at an Egyptian museum, and begins to go to public school.  She meets a girl named Tyler, who then introduces Isadora to her boyfriend Scott, and her friend Ry.  Isadora asks Ry, Scott, and Tyler to come to her brother's house and redecorate her room.  They all agree, and begin to come really close friends.  Then Isadora's mom sends a message saying that Isadora has to come home right now, because she might be in trouble.  Isadora refuses to come home, until she soon realizes that she might not be the one who is in trouble.  Now it might be to late to go back and try to help, but her friends are willing to come with her and try.

This book has an unfair advantage over all the other books that I have read. I love Greek mythology, and that was the entire premise of the book, so I definitely enjoyed it. It was a stand alone, which was a little strange considering it wasn't a contemporary. I did feel like the ending was a little rushed, but other than that, I really did enjoy it.

                                                            READQUEEN

For my favorite character, I think that it is a tie between Ry, Scott, and Tyler.

The violence in this book is pretty minor, there is a fist fight, and a mention of a near drowning.  The bad language is also on the minor side.  The romance is also not bad.  There are some dating couples, but that is about it.

Variant

I would recommend this book for kids ages twelve and up.

This book is about a boy name Benson, who just got a scholarship to Maxfield Academy.  The academy is not what it seems.  There are no adults, the kids run themselves. They are watched every second by monitors, and if you try to escape they die.  Benson becomes friends with his roommate Maosn, his girlfriend Jane, and his friend Becky.  Mason, Jane, and Benson are desperate to find a way out, but Becky is happy to stay at the school, and to follow the rules.  Benson try's everything, until he realizes that the school is not at all what it looks like.  There is a huge secret at the school, and Benson wants to find out who started it, but he soon realizes that escaping could be impossible.

I absolutely loved this book, and the series made it into my top five books of all time! I love anything involving a boarding school, so I had a feeling that I would enjoy it, but I had no idea that I would love it as much as I did. I recommended this book to all of my friends and they all loved it. I highly recommend it, to everyone.

The bad language was very minor.  The romance was also very minor, ( a mention that people are dating at the school, one kiss.)  The violence was the worst part of this book, but it was not overwhelming.  The violence was medium to heavy, I cannot say specifically what happens without giving the book away.

Insurgent

I would recommend this book to teens ages fourteen and up.

File:Insurgent (book).jpeg

This book left off where Divergent ended.  Four and Tris go to the amity headquarters trying find a safe  place to go after the war.  They soon realize that they do not fit in there, and decide to go to the Candor headquarters, where they are kidnapped and questioned.  That is where Tris discovered that the divergents are being controlled, and if the people do not turn in a divergent everyday, she kills three people.  Tris decides to go and visit her brother Caleb in Erudite, but he turns on her, and turns her in.  How is Tris supposed to escape now?

I really enjoyed this book, but I did like Divergent more. I wasn't a huge fan of the setting in this book, I thought that it was a little awkward. Other than that I really loved this book, and would recommend it, especially if you loved the first one.

My favorite character is Christina, Tris' best friend.

The bad language was minor, and the violence was medium/heavy.  The romance was heavy, and that is why I will not be reading the third book.

Legend

I would recommend this book for ages twelve and up.

This book is about a girl named June and a boy named day.  June is a military prodigy, born in one of the wealthiest sections of the city.  Day is the country's most wanted criminal, who lives in the poorest sections of the city.  When Metias June's brother is murdered and Day becomes the prime suspect, June decides that she is going to find Day and kill him.  When June finally finds Day, and is about to get her revenge, Day proves to her that he did not kill her brother.  Now June is desperate to find who her brother's killer really is, and Day wants to help.  As they begin to uncover the mystery the realize that they have gotten themselves into a lot of trouble, and have to find a way to escape before they end up dead too.

I absolutly loved this book! It was so good.

My favorite character was either Day or Metias. They where both really sweet, and always willing to help June.

This book had minor bad language, and minor romance. This book also had heavy violence.

The Raven Boys

I would recommend this book for ages thirteen and up.

This book is about a girl named Blue.  Everyone in Blue's family are psychics, except for Blue.  Instead, Blue is like a "battery" to her family. Whenever Blue is around, they can see further into the future.  Then Blue meets a boy named Gansey, who comes in wanting to know his future.  She goes and visits him after he leaves, and finds out that he is looking for a lost king.  Gansey tells Blue that there is a king that was buried alive, but that he did not die. This king was buried on an energy line, and whoever finds this king gets one wish.  Gansey and all of his friends, (Noah, Adam, and Ronan) are determined to find this king, and with the psychics daughter to help them, they think that they have a pretty good chance. Then they find out that they are not the only ones looking for the lost king.  There is someone else out there who is just as determined as they are.

I absolutely loved this book.  It was so goo, and I would recommend it for sure.

I have a lot of favorite characters in this book, they were all so funny, but my favorite was probably Adam.

This book had minor violence, and minor romance.  Even though Adam and Blue are dating, there is  nothing inappropriate, (They don't even kiss.)  The only real problem with this book was the cursing. There was a major amount of curse words.  Also parents should know that this book does include things involving psychics and ghosts. There are things like palm readings and tarot cards.

The Count of Monte Cristo

I would recommend this book for ages fourteen+.  This book is very good, and even though it is a classic, it is not at all boring.

This book is about a man named Edmond Dantes.  Edmond works on a ship, and is going to sail to town to meet his fiancé; but as he is about to get married, some jail guards come and arrest him.  Edmond knows that he did not do anything wrong, but the guards do not believe him.  Edmond is thrown in prison, and stays there for about eleven years.  Until he meets a man who is in the cell next to him.  They dig a tunnel connecting their cells.  Edmond and the man plan an escape, and are just about to carry through with it, until the man in the cell suddenly get sick and dies. Now Edmond is on his own.  He does manage to carry through with an escape plan, and get out.  Edmond goes back to where his fiancé lives, and finds that she has married someone else.  Edmond later finds out that the man she married is the same man that falsely accused him, and put him in prison. Edmond is furious, and plans an elaborate plan to get back at everyone who wronged him.  Edmond renames himself the Count of Monte Criso, and begins to unravel his plan.

I loved this book, it is a book that I would recommend for sure.

My favorite character is Edmond Dantes, because he is so smart and he always figures a way out of things.

There is no bad language in this book, and hardly any romance.  The violence is probably in the medium amount.

Leviathan

I would recommend this book to kids ages 12 and up.

This book is about a girl named Deryn and a boy named Alek. Alek is a prince, and after his parents were killed, he has constantly been on the run, even in the middle of World War One. Deryn is a girl who wants nothing more then to go into war with her older brother. Her brother agrees to help her, and begins to disguise her like a boy. Deryn gets put in war, and is immediately separated from the group, so she is put on a aircraft called the Leviathan. So far no one has discovered her secret, until a female spy comes aboard the Leviathan. Deryn is terrified, and knows that a girl will have much more of a chance of finding her out. Then Deryn and Alek meet, both keeping terrible secrets. They become friends, but Deryn fears that the longer she is around him, the sooner he will find out. The. The aircraft begins to crash land, and Deryn and Alek are the ones who must try to save it.

I thought this book was very well thought out, and I enjoyed it very much.

My favorite character is Deryn, because she is very funny.

This book had very very minor violence, which surprised since it was set in World War One. Deryn does swear, but not like what we are used to. She says words like barking spiders, and blisters. There is no romance, but they do talk about how Deryn has special tailoring to disguise herself. There is some religious talk, and debates about Christianity and Darwinism. I have also read book two in this trilogy, and it is just as appropriate.

Pegasus: the flame of Olympus

I would say that this book is good for ages eleven and up.

This book is about a thirteen year old girl named Emily. Emily is at home alone when she hears a big crash on her apartments roof. She goes up to her roof to see what has happened, and sees something she has never seen before. Pegasus, the Olympian horse of the greek gods has crash landed on her roof. Pegasus is horribly injured, with a spear in it's stomach. Emily is not strong enough to get it out, so she goes to find Joel the school bully. He is the one strong enough to pull it out. Joel follows her and helps and they become great friends. While on the roof, they get attacked by creatures called nirads. As they fly away on Pegasus, a nirad grabs Emily's leg, and they crash land in the middle of forest. Emily's leg is now infected and she can not walk. Then Emily's dad finds them along with the Greek gods Diana and Paelen. That is when they all find out that a mental hospital is after them, and wish to interrogate them, and they will not stop until they get them.

I absolutely LOVED this book. I flew right through it, and read it in one day. I highly recommend it.

My favorite character is Joel. I loved how he went from this awful bully to Emily's best friend.

This book has medium violence, and no bad language. This book also has no romance. In book two the content stays the same, in book three and four there is one kiss.

Cinder

I would recommend this book to ages 12 or 13, because of some iffy scenes.

This book is about a girl named Cinder. Cinder is a cyborg, or a genetically enhanced human. Cinder works for her stepmother and her stepmothers two daughters. Cinder and Peony, (her stepmothers youngest daughter) become very good friends, and Peony begins to come with Cinder to the junk yard, to get tools. That is when Cinder sees dark spots on Peony's neck. Cinder realizes that Peony has gotten the plague, (a disease going around that kills you in three days.) Cinder's stepmother gives Cinder away to a hospital as a tester (someone who tests the cures for the disease) Now Cinder has been sent off to a brand new life, and she is terrified. Then prince Kai comes to Cinder asking her if she can fix his broken tool. She agrees and begins meeting up with him every day. Then the surgeon tells her that some how she is immune to the disease, and that she is a lunar. Lunar's are supposed to be dead. Then the Lunar queen, Levana comes to earth demanding to marry prince Kai. Then Levana sees Cinder, and realizes that she is a lunar. Levana immediately wants Cinder dead, but how can she do that with out having Kai find out?

I absolutely loved this book, it was just a really fun book. I give it four out of five stars.

I honestly do not have a favorite character in this book, because I loved them all.

The violence in this book is a medium. There really was not much of anything, except there were some gruesome surgery scenes. There was no bad language. There is one kiss, and all the girls in the town love prince Kai, (because of his royalty.)

Princess of the Silver Woods

I would recommend this book for ages twelve and up.

This book is about a girl named Petunia.  She is sixteen yours old, and is the youngest of the twelve princesses of her country.  She was out in the woods one day, when a band of thieves came and kidnapped her, not knowing that she was one of the princesses.  Once they find out who she really is, the lead bandit Oliver decides to lead her back to her other home, not the palace.  Once he leaves her there, he realizes that Petunia is in danger, and he immediately begins a plan to rescue her.  Eventually the other eleven princesses (and some of their husbands: four are married, two are engaged)  go to where Petunia is so that they can take her back to the palace.  That is when all of the princesses get kidnapped, (the husbands manage to get away.) and are taken to a separate building.  Oliver then unites with the princesses husbands, in order to get the girls back.  They come up with a very delicate plan to get the girls out, but what they don't know is that the girls are planning their own escape that might interfere with their husbands.

I absolutly loved this book!  It was so good and I would recommend it for sure.

My favorite character is probably Gantsy (The oldest sisters husband).  He is funny and kind.

This book has mild to no language, and minor romance. The violence is minor to medium depending on your standards. All the books have the same content.

Shadow of the dragon

I would recommend this book for ages 12 and up.

This book follows a girl named Kira and her little sister Elspeth.  One day while Kira and her sister Elspeth are out walking, their family is taken hostage.  Their mom, dad, and brother are taken to war, and their other sister is taken to a slave camp.  Now on the run, from the prince, Kira and Elspeth, are in constant danger. They will do anything to get away from the prince and his men and find their family, but when there brother is put on the front line of a dragon war, they aren't sure how to get him back.

I LOVED this book and whipped right through it.

My favorite character  is Kira, because she is strong willed and brave.

This book had no bad language, no romance, and minor-medium violence.  All in all this book was surprisingly clean, and the entire series stays that way.

Paladin prophecy

I would recommend this book to kids no younger than thirteen.  Most of the content is clean but there are a couple things that could scare kids.

This book follows a teenage boy named Will.  Will is an average boy, until he scores a 112 on a world wide test. Will is taken to a school for special teens, and is put in a dorm with Ajay, Nick, Elise, and Brooke.  That is when they begin to realize that something is not right at this school.  One of the schools leaders (lyle) has the power of mind control, and is out to kill Will.  Will try's not to worry about it, but when Lyle kidnaps Brooke, he realizes he can not ignore this any longer, but is he willing to risk all of his other friends lives in order to get Brooke back?

I absolutely loved this book, and flew right through it.

My favorite character is Ajay, because he has a great sense of humor.

This book has minor language, and the romance is not too bad. Ajay makes a comment that all the girls in the school are beautiful, and Will is caught in the middle of an interesting love triangle. There is nothing that a tween could not handle. The violence was not too bad, there was a gruesome scene, where one of the characters gets stabbed in his stomach (he does survive.) a small non descriptive scene where a character gets electrocuted.

The maze runner

This book should not be read by kids younger then fourteen.

This book is about a boy named Thomas.  Thomas is shipped off to this place called the Maze, Thomas has lost has memory and has no idea what is going on.  The maze is full of other teenage boys who have also lost their memories.  Their only goal is to escape, before the monsters in the maze kill them. The boys search for clues, and even venture further into the maze desperate to get out.  Then for the first time ever a girl is sent to the maze, and she brought a clue of how to get out along with her.

I disliked this book for multiple reasons; I felt that the main character was very whiny and over all unlikeable. I think that the main reason that I disliked this book was because of the over use of James Dashner's made up language. It seemed that at least ten times a page the boys would say things like klunk and shuck, and it became quite repetitive.

The romance is extremely mild, and the bad language was fairly mild.  The author used words like shuck and klunk to replace swearing.  The violence was extremely bad.   The boys would go insane and begin, to try to eat each other. Then as punishment the other boys would throw the outcast into a pit and watch him be eaten by monsters.  This violence was very bad. In my opinion it was not for teens.

The book Thief

I would recommend this book the kids no younger than thirteen.  This book is very good, but can be difficult to understand and confusing at times.

This book takes place during World War two. Liesel and her mom and brother, are running away from their home town which has been over run by Nazis.  Liesel's mom found a family on Himmel Street that is willing to take in the two kids. On the way to the home, Liesel's brother gets sick and dies.  Finally, they make it to Himmel Street, and her mom leaves her with Rosa and Hans Huberman.  Liesel immediately fits in, and makes a new best friend named Rudy.  Rudy and Liesel do all sorts of things together, and eventually pluck up the courage to begin stealing food and books.  Now Liesel con not stop stealing books, and will get them from anywhere possible, even Nazi book burnings.  When Liesel turns eleven, a Jew named Max knocks on their door. Twenty years before, Hans had made a promise to Max's mom saying that he would take care of him in the future id he ever needed it. Max says that he needs help and wants to know if he can live in their basement. Max lives in their basement unnoticed for a year, then the bombing begins.  After the bombings the Nazis come and search all the houses; they do not find Max, who is hidden under the stair case in the Huberman's basement.  Then the Nazis begin to take Jews and kill a few publicly, and when Hans saves a jew's life he is immediately punished.  He is sent off to war. Max also decides to leave, he thinks that he is causing to many problems, and is afraid he will get them into trouble.  Hans breaks his leg and is sent back home three years later. One night, Liesel decides to go down into the basement for a while, and ends up following asleep. She wakes up to nothing; there are medics all around her, and she doesn't know what is going on. That night there was a bombing, everyone was killed except her; she was in the basement.  Everyone is gone, Rosa, Hans, even Rudy.  Liesel is sent off to another foster home where she grows up.  When Liesel was an adult, she starts a store front. One day in the store a man walks in asking to see someone named Liesel. It is Max, he also survived the war.  Liesel died of old age, with three kids and three grandkids.

This book is absolutly amazing, and I would recommend it to anyone.

This book has mild romance, and medium to heavy bad language.  This book does include some swearing, although they do not use the worst of words it is quite repetitive. The violence is a medium, and for a book on World War two, it defiantly was not near as bad as it could have been.

Dragons in our midst: Raising Dragons

This series would be fine for ages 11 and up, but they do get more intense as the series goes on. The third book does deal with some possession, but it is not over the top, because this is a tween Christian series.

This book is about a boy named Billy.  Billy has mysteriously hot breath.  He can't even kiss his mom without burning her cheek.  Then a strange girl named Bonnie shows up in his class.  Bonnie constantly has her backpack on her, and refuses to take it off.  Bonnie and Billy become friends, and begin to learn more and more about each other.  Then, when Bonnie mysteriously disappears, Billy  follows her.  He follows her to an alley way, where she has been kidnapped by their principal. Billy eventually gets kidnapped, while trying to help Bonnie escape. Right as Bonnie gets away, her back pack comes off, and huge dragon wings come out of her back.  After they escape Bonnie tells Billy that they are both half dragon, (Bonnie's mom and Billy's dad.) They each get a single dragon ability, (Bonnie flight and Billy fire.)  Bonnie tells Billy now that the dragon slayer knows for sure that they are the dragon he has been hunting, they have to run away.  Bonnie and Billy run away with Billy's fully human friend Walter.  Now they are on the run, and even though they are trying to get away from the dragon slayer, Billy doesn't think it would e such a horrible idea to try to find their dragon parents.

I absolutly LOVE this series, and I am currently re-reading them.

This book has no bad language, (a couple rude comments, and the term demon witch, which is what the dragon slayer calls female dragons.)  Extremely mild to no romance. The violence is probably mild or medium for this particular book. In the first 50 or so pages there is a very mild bully, and then after that there is the dragon slayer, but neither one are that terrible in this book.

My favorite character is Bonnie because she is quiet, but is a lot stronger and smarter then she leads on to be, which catches a lot of people by surprise.

Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment

I think this book would be fine for ages 11 or 12 and up.

This book is about 6 kids:  Max, Fang, Iggy, Nudge, Gasman (Gazzy), and Angel.  They were all experiments (half bird, half human) and they escape.  Now they are on the run and they have chosen Max as their leader.  They think they have found somewhere safe to live until the creatures called the erasers kidnap Angel.  Since Gazzy is only eight, they leave him behind.  They also leave Iggy because he is blind.  Max, Fang, and Nudge go to find Angel.  On the way there Max sees a girl being bullied by some guys.  She stops to help, while Nudge and Fang continue on.  Max manages to save the girl, but gets shot in the shoulder (and wing) and can't continue on.  She goes to the house of the girl she saved.  Her name is Ella, and Max tells them everything,  even about her wings.  They take her to the doctor for an X-ray.  That is when she realizes she has a tracking device in her arm.  She runs away and eventually finds Nudge, Fang and soon Iggy and Gazzy who also ran away.  After finding Angel, they run to New York. That is when Max finds out she has a voice in her head, but she doesn't know if it is there to help or hurt her.  Then they find out that there is an underground experiment lab.  They immediately go down there to see if they can find any research on their real parents.  When they get down there, they find something that they never expected to find,  something that could change their lives forever.

I loved this book.  It was so good, and I think anyone between the ages of 11-15 would love it.

My favorite character would either be Fang or Iggy.  Fang is very serious and to the point, while Iggy is funny and jokes around a lot.

This book has mild romance (one kiss),  mild to medium bad language, and medium violence.

The Selection

I would recommend this book to people no younger than twelve, maybe thirteen.

This book is about America and she has just turned sixteen.  Where America lives, all of the people are ranked on the wealth line.  Ones are the kings and queens while number eight are the slaves.  America is a five and her boyfriend, Aspen is a six.  Aspen is about to ask America to marry him, until there is an invitation for girls ages 16-24 to go to the palace so that Prince Maxin can pick his bride.  If you sign the forms you automatically become a number three.  America decides not to go, so she can marry Aspen but Aspen realizes that he doesn't want to marry America.  He is afraid he won't be able to take care of her since he is so poor.  He urges America to sign the forms so she will become a three, then when she goes to the palace he tells her to immediately lose so she can go back to him and they can be married as threes.   She agrees and signs the forms, and in a week is sent off with 35 other girls to the palace.  One by one the girls meet the prince.  The prince tells America he does not want to marry her, but he would like someone who knows the girls well to tell him which one to marry.  America agrees as long as he says he will not marry her.  America stays with Prince Maxin for weeks telling him who to eliminate and when.  Now there are only 17 girls left, and America can't wait to go home.  That night rebels attack the palace, and two girls leave the competition out of fear.   Prince Maxin says he will let America leave if she wants to.  She declines and says she would rather help him pick a wife.  As the days pass Maxin and America begin to fall in love.  Although she told him not to pick her, she now realizes she would not mind being picked.  As they start dating, Aspen is asked to work as a guard for the palace.  He agrees, but soon sees that  the prince and America have gotten very close.  Now America must make a choice.... but who will she choose?

This is an amazing book and that I think a lot of people would love it.

My favorite character is Maxin.   I like how he asks America to help him pick a wife, because he doesn't want to hurt anyones feelings.

There is no bad language, and no violence.  There is medium romance that would not be appropriate for younger kids, and the second book does get worse on the romance.

Divergent

This is a good book for twelve and up.  There are some things that may not be good for kids any younger.

Tris just turned 16 along with her brother Caleb.  Once you turn 16 you have the opportunity to change your faction [ Candor, Amity, Abegnation, Erudite, or Dauntless].   Tris and Caleb were both born into Abegnation, [ the selfless ].  They can choose to either stay in their original faction or change.  Caleb chooses Euridite, [ the smart ] while Tris chooses Dauntless, [ the fearless ].  They both leave their old life to find a new one in their new faction.  This story follows Tris and her adventures in Dauntless.  First the people who transferred have to prove they belong in that particular faction.  The transfers must jump from a moving train onto a roof.  After the transfers complete this task, they think they have made it into that faction for sure.  Then the Dauntless leader Eric tells them only half of them will make it in and those who don't will become factionless.  Their first task is to beat everyone else in a fight.  The top 14 will move on.  Tris' first fight is against Molly. They must continue to fight until one of them becomes unable to continue.  Although Tris does not win all of her fights, she still makes it in seventh place.  She and her friends: Al, Christina and Will make it to stage two.  Stage 2 is called Facing your Fears.  In dauntless they literally put you into your worst fears and you have to conquer them.  The only person to successfully conquer it is Tris.  This makes everyone else jealous, and they decide to  "get rid of the competition." That night Tris is kidnapped and taken to be killed.  After  she escapes, she realizes one of her kidnappers was her friend Al.  She tells him that she will never forgive him for that.  Al realizes he does  not belong in Dauntless, so he decides he would rather die than hurt anyone else.  That night Al jumps into a pit and dies.  Tris goes to visit Caleb in Euridite, and she learns that the Euridite faction has developed a serum to control the Abegnation and Dauntless factions.  Tris only has a couple of days to warn everyone, but how can she warn two factions in time??

This is by far the best book I have ever read.  It is absolutely incredible and I highly recommend it.

My favorite character was Al because he was sweet and really liked Tris.

This book has medium romance, and medium violence.  To me, it had medium language a couple of times through out the book, but to some people it might be considered minor.

Witch and Wizard

I would recommend this book for ages thirteen and up, but I would recommend this series for ages fifteen and up.

This book is about Whit and Whisty Algood.  Whit is seventeen years old while his little sister is fifteen. They live in a world where someone named "the one who is the one" has put their world into a dictatorship, called the New Order, where you cannot read, learn, or even imagine.  In the middle of the night, some New Order officials come and take them while declaring them a witch and a wizard.  They get transported to a New Order prison and are tested for months.  Once "the one" is positive they are in fact a witch and wizard, he sentences them to execution by hanging them once they turn eighteen.  One of their many problems is that Whit is going to turn eighteen in a couple weeks.  Then strange things begin to happen. Whisty begins to float, glow, and catch on fire without being burnt, while Whit can speak incantations.  Whit and Whisty finally escape and are now proud to call themselves witch and wizard.  After they escape they begin to feel guilty that they left thousands of other kids to die in those cells, so they make a rescue plan.  Later they go back and begin to rescue the kids, but before they can complete their mission, Whisty gets captured and "the one" plans to execute her in less than a week.

My favorite character is Whisty because she is kind, yet is sarcastic.

This book is very good and I think many people will enjoy it.

This book had no bad language, and medium romance.  It also had medium violence. In this series the content gets worse and worse, and in the end I stopped reading them.
