Fight for Freedom

This book is good for fifth to ninth grade.

This book is about a ten year old boy named Marcus. He lives in the Roman Empire with his mom and dad.  After he finds out his parents owe a lot of money to the government he becomes scared, and he has a right to be.  The next day Roman guards come demanding money that his family doesn't have.  In anger the guards kill Marcus' dad, and take him and his mom as slaves.  Marcus and his mom come up with a plan to escape slavery, but only Marcus can escape.  As he makes his way through Rome alone, a man takes Marcus again.  Marcus soon realizes this man is a gladiator trainer.  He takes young boys and men to train, then he puts them against each other in a gladiator competition.  Marcus soon sees that he is the youngest and has a small chance of winning, but winning is the only way to save his mom.  The question is, how will he get out of the competition alive?

This book is good, and I really hope you guys like it.  I had a couple of friends who read this book and really liked it.

My favorite character is Marcus' dad.  He loves Marcus, and loves to play around with him, but he can also be serious and get things done.

The Hobbit

I would recommend this book for eighth grade and up.

There once was a ring that has the power to control all of Middle Earth.  It was created and owned, by the dark lord Sarumon, until he was killed in battle, and the ring was found by a corrupted hobbit named Gollum.  Years later a wizard, named Gandalf the grey came to a hobbit named Bilbo Baggins, and asked him to accompany twelve dwarves along with him self on an adventure to a dragons lair.  They wanted to go there to steal part of the dragons hoard.  Bilbo agrees to go, but after a couple of days Bilbo gets split from the group, and ends up in Gollums cave.  That is when bilbos real adventures begin, Bilbo steals the ring from Gollum, and finds out it has a special power.  Any one who wears the ring turns invisible.  That is what is thought to be the only gift of the powerful ring, but what comes with a gift, also comes with a curse.  After Bilbo finds and reunites with the dwarves they continue to make there way to the dragons lair.  As of now this ring is becoming quite helpful to be able to sneak past dragons and such, but Bilbo later Bilbo will find out the curse of the ring, and realize that this ring is not as great as it seems.

There are some slow parts in this book, but if you get past those parts you will be glad you did, because this book just gets better and better.

My favorite character is Thorin, the leader of the dwarves.  He is very confident, and knows what he is doing, and although he may seem mean at first, he really is very caring.

Kingdoms Dawn

This is an amazing book, which I think would be good for fifth to ninth grade.

Kingdoms Dawn is a Christian book, about a 16 year old boy named Leinad.  Leinad and his father, Peyton are farmers, but every day Peyton teaches Leinad  sword fighting.  Why would a farmer need to know how to fight?  Leinad thinks he lives in the perfect world until his father adopts an eleven year old orphan girl named Tess.  Leinad loves Tess, because she reminds him of his mother who died years before.  Later Peyton tells Leinad the reason he has learned sword fighting is because when he reached 18 he would be the kings personal knight.  On Leinads way home from hunting he encounters a knight of the dark lord who tries to kill him.  After barely escaping Leinad returns home to see the dark lord kill his father.  Now Leinad is on his own, and he has to take care of Tess.  After weeks of wandering the desert on their own, a slave master comes and takes them as his slaves.  He and Tess are split up, and all Leinad wants to do is escape with her, but before he can save Tess he must beat the slave master in a battle.  The only way to beat a professional sword fighter is to practice. Leinad knows he must wait to save Tess and the rest of the slaves, but will he save them in time?

I love this book and I hope you enjoy it too .

My favorite character is Tess, because she is brave and encouraging.

Princess Academy

This is a good book for fourth - eighth grade.

Miri is sent to the Princess Academy along with all the other girls from her town.  The girls must go through princess training to see which one is perfect for the prince.  The training is going great, and during the ball Miri even gets to dance with the prince.  Then a group of bandits hear about the princess training, and knows that one who is going to marry the prince will be worth a lot of money.  The bandits get to the school and kidnap all of the girls.  That is until the townspeople hear about the bandits, and go to rescue the girls.  The townspeople have no weapons, but they are determined to get the girls back, and they will do just about anything.  Now all the girls have to do is get out of the house that the bandits have them in, and run to the protection of their people.   That can be difficult when you have fifteen girls who need to escape, and bandits watching you 24/7.  Miri has a plan, but will it work?

This book has no bad language, minor romance, and minor violence because of the bandits.

I absolutly love this book, and I hope you enjoy it.

My favorite character is Miri, because she always has a plan, and is not scared easily.

Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief

Percy Jackson is a great book to start reading in third grade, but I also know a lot of adults who have read it and loved it.

This book is about a twelve year old boy who finds out he is a demigod, which is half human and half greek god.  Up until then, he lived a normal life as a middle school boy.  Percy has ADHD and dyslexia.    After his teacher turns into a creature called a fury, which is a a servant of the greek god Hades, he knows he is not normal.  To make it even tougher, Percy finds out his best friend Grover is actually a Satyer, a half goat half man sent out to protect demigods.  Grover tells Percy that Hades has found him, and he has to go to a protective camp for demigods, called Camp Half-blood.  Percy, along with his mom and Grover run to Camp Half-blood, when a centaur attacks Percy's mom and kills her.  In this first book, Percy goes with Grover and his new friend Annabeth, to Hades to get his mom back.  Also Zeus' lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy thinks Hades took it.  If it is not returned by midnight, on the summer solstice,  Zeus will declare war.

This book has no bad language, and minor violence.  Also it has very minor romance.

I hope you enjoy this book.  It's one of my favorites!

My favorite character is Annabeth. She is the strongest and smartest.  She also knows how to kill all the monsters they face.

The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games is a good book to read in fifth grade and up.   I would recommend fourth grade     and up if the level of comprehension is above their reading level.

This book takes place in a country called Panem.  There are twelve districts and in the middle of the twelve districts is the Capitol.  The Capitol controls all of Panem, and to prove that they are in control, they hold the annual Hunger Games.  They choose one boy and one girl, ages twelve to eighteen from each district to fight to the death on TV.  Katniss Everdeen, who is the main character, is chosen after she volunteers to go in the place of her little sister who was chosen, along with Peeta Mellark.  They are put on a train to be taken to the Capitol.  They have to train to fight, be in a parade, and do interviews on TV.  After they have finished all the preparations, they both get dropped off at the arena to fight along with the other twenty-two contestants.  To be the ultimate survivor, they must face the outdoor elements, hunt for food, align themselves with some of the other contestants, but in the end they must kill every other contestant and be the last one standing.  Let the HUNGER GAMES begin!!

This has medium romance and no bad language.   The violence is medium, even though the deaths are kind of gross.  There aren't details on any of the deaths, so it shouldn't leave the younger readers scared.

I hope you enjoy this book.  I really did!

Clove is my favorite character.  She is vicious and strong, and does what needs to be done.  She is very brave.

This is a good book to read for fifth to ninth grade.

After Creel's aunt offers her to a dragon, Creel knows she is on her own, and must escape.  Before she goes she takes a pair of dragon slippers.  She runs to the kingdom across town, and works there as a seamstress.  Later she finds out a horrible secret.  The slippers she took has the power to control all dragons.  Then the evil princess sees Creel wearing the slippers and she wants them.  After Creel refuses the princesses request, the princess gets mad and steals the slippers.  The princess finds out about the slippers powers, and uses the slippers to control the dragons, and starts a war.  Creel must stop the war before everyone she knows and loves gets hurt.

This book has no bad language, medium violence, but does not go into any detail.  This book also has minor romance.

This is a GREAT book.  I hope you like it.

My favorite character is Creel's friend Marta.  Marta is loving, kind, and understanding.

So Not Happening

This is a good book to read in fifth to eighth grade.

This is a Christian book about a girl named Bella, who moves from her rich house in the city to live on a farm.  Bella is devastated by the move.  She tries to fit in, and after a while she does.  She gets invited to parties and has a lot of fun.  Later she finds out a secret at the school.  Two players on the soccer team were murdered.  Bella has to figure out what happened.  One of her new friends thinks Bella is getting to close to the secret, and points a gun at her.  He says Bella can either drug herself, or he will shoot her.

This book has no bad language, minor romance, and minor violence.

This is a great book and it is really funny.  At times I would be laughing out loud while I was reading it on the couch.

It is a really good book, and everyone should try reading it.

My favorite character is Luke Sullivan. At first he is serious and mean, but in the end becomes one of Bella's greatest friends.

I hope you enjoy this book.

School of Fear

You could probably read this book in fourth to sixth grade.

In this book, four kids named Madeline, Lulu, Garrison, and Theo, go to the School of Fear.  The School of Fear is a school where the teacher teaches them to face their fears.  Madeline is afraid of insects, Lulu is scared of confined spaces, Garrison is afraid of water, and Theo is afraid of death.  Mrs. Wellington is the teacher at the school of Fear.  She is a crazy, hilarious, and fun older woman.  She has very strange ways to help the students face their fears.  By the end of the first book, the students learn to love her.

School of Fear is a great book!  There is no violence, no bad language, and very little romance.  There are a few sarcastic tones.  I do not think there is anything wrong with it.  It is probably the cleanest book I have ever read.

My favorite character is Lulu.  She is funny and very sarcastic.

The Witch of Blackbird Pond

I would probably read this book in middle or high school.

In this book sixteen year old Kit goes to live with her aunt, uncle, and their three daughters. While    she is there, she meets an old lady and they become great friends. When her uncle finds out, he bans Kit from ever seeing her again.  Kit finds out the townspeople think the old lady is a witch.  Kit sneaks away to visit her anyway, and is soon accused of witchcraft. Later on Kit gets in big trouble with the law.

This book has no bad language, and very minor romance. It has no violence, but mentions hanging, and someone being branded.

This is a very good book, but I would definitely read it when you are older.

My favorite character is Kit. She is brave, and, strong, and stands up for what is right.

I hope you enjoy it!!
